In our first ever meeting…
We were made to more than just survive…we were made to THRIVE! Casting Crowns ‘Thrive’
Our prayer is that this grows to be a place where our ordinary lives get used in extraordinary ways to encourage each other, build each other up and reach out. We pray that God teaches us and uses us to be extraordinary women of His Word.
Cornhill students encouraged us from Colossians 2:6-7 “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Caroline Hull, Redeemer Croydon’s Women’s Ministry Leader gave a talk from 1 Thessalonians 1
“Remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labour of love and steadfastness, of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ”
1 Thessalonians 1:3
Paul writes a letter after he hears that the Christians in Thessalonica are Thriving – despite intense persecution.
We Thrive out of Faith
The hard work was out of faith (v.3).
What is faith – knowing and believing that “out of his love God chose them” (v.4) and “revealed himself” to them (v.5). When they heard they were fully convicted that God was with them and their relationship with him was alive and active – Thriving!
We Thrive out of Love
“You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake” (v.5). Paul and Silas had certain faith that they were loved by God and this oozed out in the way they shared their lives with the Thessalonians, they loved them and did it for their sake so that they also would have the grace and peace of faith in God. And then what happened? They became “imitators” (v.6) of both Paul and of the Lord. Like the vine and its branches growing and bearing fruit.
We Thrive out of Hope
Verse 9 talks about the striking way that the Thessalonian church received what Paul and Silas were teaching about God and this brought real hope to many other churches spread out across the globe…and to us now. It really shows the importance and power of this gospel that we have now and for our future…
And what is this Gospel?… verses 9 & 10 tell us… “you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for His Son from heaven whom he raised from the dead.”
